The PPL(H) course is a 50+ hour course for the recreational aviator who wishes to be proficient or the private owner who is planning to purchase an aircraft. It’s comprised of theory and flying syllabus items.
Commercial Pilot Licence – Helicopter (CPL(H))
If your goal is to work professionally as a helicopter pilot, the Commercial Pilot Licence – Helicopter is the foundation of your flying career.
Our CPL(H) training is based at Moorabbin Airport and is designed not simply around completing a flight test, but around developing the aircraft handling, judgement, discipline and professional standards expected of a commercial helicopter pilot.
Students train within an active helicopter business and are exposed to an environment where flight training and commercial helicopter operations operate alongside one another.
Commercial Pilot Training
CPL(H) training develops your skills across areas including:
- Advanced helicopter handling
- Normal and emergency procedures
- Autorotations
- Navigation and cross-country operations
- Controlled airspace operations
- Aircraft performance and flight planning
- Operational decision-making
- Professional flight preparation and discipline
- Commercial aviation procedures and standards
Students are also required to complete the applicable CASA CPL(H) theory examinations and meet the relevant licensing, aeronautical experience, medical and flight-test requirements.
The exact training pathway and flight experience required can vary depending on previous aviation experience and the training pathway being undertaken.
If you already hold an aeroplane or helicopter licence, contact us and we can review your experience and discuss the most suitable pathway.
Train in a Commercial Helicopter Environment
Learning to pass a flight test is only one part of becoming a professional pilot.
Our focus is on developing pilots who understand the standards expected in commercial aviation: preparation, professionalism, aircraft care, sound decision-making and safe, accurate flying.
While completion of training does not guarantee employment, training within an active helicopter operation gives students valuable exposure to the professional environment they are preparing to enter.
Training Aircraft
Initial CPL(H) training is primarily conducted in the Hughes/Schweizer 300 and Robinson R44.
As your experience develops, further training may also be available on aircraft including the Bell B206 JetRanger, Bell B206L LongRanger, Airbus AS350, EC130/H130, Bell 407 and Agusta A109, depending on your training objectives and aircraft availability.
