The PPL(H) course is a 50+ hour course for the recreational aviator who wishes to be proficient or the private owner who is planning to purchase an aircraft. It’s comprised of theory and flying syllabus items.
Commercial Pilot Licence (Helicopter) from The Helicopter Group (AUS)
The CPL(H) course is designed for those who wish to work as a helicopter pilot.

Passes in the Following Subjects:
- Helicopter performance, operations and flight planning: 70% minimum pass
- Flight Navigation: 70% minimum pass
- Meteorology: 70% minimum pass
- Helicopter performance, operations and flight planning: 70% minimum pass
- Aerodynamics: 70% minimum pass
- Flight rules procedures: 80% minimum pass
- Human performance and limitations: 70% minimum pass
Flight Time – Civil Aviation of Australia (CASA) requires a minimum of 105 hours flight time
Medical – obtained from CASA certified doctor
Concessions for Aeroplane Licences
The Civil Aviation Regulations allow a reduction in the minimum hours of training in a helicopter if you hold an Aeroplane Licence.
If you hold or intend to obtain your COMMERCIAL AEROPLANE LICENCE (CPLA), the minimum hours are as follows:
PRIVATE LICENCE (PPLH) 38 hours and pass on PPL(H) exam.
COMMERCIAL LICENCE (CPLH) 60 hours and pass on Aerodynamics, Air Law, Aircraft General Knowledge and Performance Loading exams.
NOTE: If you are thinking of obtaining your Aeroplane Licence prior to your helicopter training, please contact us to discuss the advantages and disadvantages beforehand. We can also arrange your aeroplane theory and flight training if needed.
